In her young years, in October 1917, Elizabeth [Klarer] saw her first UFO.

(UFOs: The Definitive Casebook, Spencer)

[An] experience… was related by meteorologist Elizabeth Klarer of Natal, South Africa to investigator Cynthia Hind.  In October 1917 Elizabeth and her sister were living on a farm in a valley nestling below the Drakensberg Mountains.  It was near the Mooi river at sunset, at around 5.30 pm, that they had their sighting.  The girls were standing on a hill when an orange-red ball appeared in the sky.  It seemed to be rushing in their direction and Elizabeth thought it must be a meteorite.  They then noticed a metallic sphere which circled around the ball three times, deflecting it from its course.  In later years Elizabeth became a contactee and wrote a book about her experiences called Beyond the Light Barrier.  It describes her regular contact with a non-human intelligence.
