A New Year’s UFO in Spain
After the Christmas leave, four soldiers were returning in the early morning from Santander to the army engineer academy at Burgos. At 6.30 am, the driver noticed a particularly bright star and pointed it out to his companions. Later, all four saw a “luminous object” descend in an arc to the ground nearby at high speed. The soldiers got out of the car and saw an “object shaped like a truncated cone, two metres (six feet) tall and three metres (ten feet) wide (which) stood and irradiated bright white-yellow light. The light was extinguished but the dark soon became light again when four identical objects appeared.” The four UFOs formed a row, “emitting jets of white light downward”. After ten minutes, the soldiers decided to carry on with their journey lest they be late on parade.
The military judge appointed to investigate the sighting concluded that “the car’s occupants were predisposed, tired and drowsy” and in a state of suggestibility had shared some kind of hallucination. “An opinion I do not share at all,” declared Sr Ballester Olmos, Spain’s leading ufologist.
