22.30
On 8 August a London [FBI] agent reported an incident that had occurred on 16 January 1947 – five months before the Kenneth Arnold sighting. At 22.30 hours an RAF Mosquito was on night flying practice 100 miles out over the North Sea near the Dutch coast when a radar tracking was made of an unknown target. The aircraft was ordered to intercept at 22,000 feet and “a long chase ensued”. This concluded at 23.00 hours over Norfolk. Two airborne radar contacts were established with the unidentified object, which took “efficient controlled evasive action”. The British Air Ministry conclusion had been that the encounter was unexplained. UFOs were clearly nothing new.
