Many top-ranking officials exposed to the UFO phenomenon through their work end up becoming serious and valuable researchers in the UFO community. One such example is Air Marshal Sir George Jones, who was Australian Chief of the Air Staff between 1942 and 1952. In 1930, as a squadron leader of the Royal Australian Air Force, Jones investigated UFO sightings around Bass Strait (later the scene of some extraordinary encounters including the death of pilot Frederick Valentich).
